Travel light and lower your risk of exposure

Even though you are not travelling to China, you’re still be exposed to the risk of catching the flu whenever you are out in a public space — especially at the airport and public transport terminals. At Cube Self Storage, we encourage you to take preventive measures for any infections seriously. So, here what you can do to prevent yourself from getting infected during your travel:

  1. Practice hand hygiene

Indeed, hand hygiene practice is simple yet it is proven to be one of the most effective ways to prevent infections. Cleaning your hands helps to prevent the spread of viruses. So, make sure to wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; after coughing, sneezing or blowing your nose; and before eating. Always carry an alcohol-based hand sanitizer (at least 60% alcohol) when you’re travelling because soap and water may not be readily available everywhere. Always be aware of sick people, avoid close contact with them, and never touch your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.

  1. Keep calm and DON’T wear a facemask if you are not sick

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) does not recommend the use of facemasks for the general public to prevent the spread of the virus. Those without any flu-like symptoms, cough or fever need not wear the facemask. A senior scholar at Johns Hopkins University Center for Health Security, Amesh Adalja said, “People are panicking and buying a mask is a way of taking charge and doing something. But the situation could spiral, and stores running out of masks may make others panic even more.” So, if you are well, be mindful and refrain from hoarding masks ‘just in case’ you need them, as this may lead to a lack of masks in places and for people who really need it. Instead, keep calm, focus on what works best and more effective than wearing a facemask: hand hygiene!

  1. Spend less time in public spaces when travelling

Reduce your waiting time at the airport by travelling light. The lesser the time you spend being in public spaces, the lower the risk for you to get infected by any viruses. Other benefits of travelling light includes, no excess baggage or checked baggage fees, makes multi-destinations trips less of a hassle, and of course quicker and efficient mobility.
