Celebrate Hari Raya in the #NewNormal at Home

Raya celebrations are a month long, but with the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO), visiting is only allowed on the first day of Hari Raya. That doesn’t mean the festivities must come to an end. You can still celebrate at home with your family and Raya food! So, it’s time to gather round the family and learn grandma’s recipe, or watch cooking tutorials online and try a hand in making these scrumptious traditional delicacies!

  1. Ketupat and Rendang

A Hari Raya icon, this rice dumpling is seen almost in every Raya advertisement. This traditional recipe consists of rice packed inside pouches made from woven palm leaf shaped like diamonds. A must pair dish with Rendang, a flavourful rich dry curry dish bursting with flavours prepared with either beef or chicken. A must have on the table every #Raya!

  1. Dodol

This sweet sticky toffy-like candy is made from coconut milk, gula melaka (palm sugar) and glutinous rice flour. It has a chewy texture and smells like caramelised coconut. This sweet treat is wrapped into tiny triangular parcels forming its unique shape. Our favourite at Cube is the #Durian flavoured one!

  1. Kuih Raya

Hari Raya isn’t complete without Kuih Raya (Raya Cookies). Our favourite is the Kuih bangkit (otherwise known as tapioca cookies). Despite its simple look, you can never miss these white cookies during Raya. This melt-in-your-mouth cookie has an enjoyably powdery texture, which is crisp on the outside with a brittle centre. Although they are challenging to prepare, but it is worthy of trying because they are just oh-so-amazing. Another Raya favourite is the Kuih Dahlia— a befitting name for this floral shaped cookie, which is usually completed with a cubed cherry.

Celebrating Hari Raya isn’t complete without sharing Raya food with your relatives and friends. Instead of inviting them over to your house, you can share Raya food by using same day delivery services.
